Some
of the best-known men in India are alumni of the schools and colleges at
Nainital, founded by European missionaries in the last century. These priests
and nuns brought exemplary dedication to the task, imparting to their students
not only learning but a wealth of tradition cherished to this day.
St. Joseph's College, with its solid fortress-like walls, was originally
known as St. Joseph's Seminary. Its birthplace was Darjeeling, from where
it was shifted to Nainital. The well-known All Saints' School for Girls
is housed in a distinguished-looking building with an estate of 14.57 hectare
adjoining the grounds of the Government House. There is St. Mary's for girls
too, founded in 1878. |
