Naini Saini
Airport is situated at 4.5 km (2.50 mi) Northwest of Pithoragarh
District of Uttarakhand surrounded by mountains of Himalayan range.
Naini Saini Airport has a connecting flight to Delhi by Pantnagar Airport,
serviced by Deccan Aviation. It is a Domestic Airport for small planes landing.
With the State Government having cleared the Detailed Project Report for
upgrading the strategically important Naini-Saini airport in Pithoragarh,
the Indian Army looks set to be able to land aircraft with capacity of 60
seats or more near the border with Tibet. The Naini Saini airport is being
upgraded from the strategic point of view.

Given the importance, the State Government has set December 2013 as the
deadline for its completion. The Rail India Technical and Economic Services
(RITES) has redrafted the design of this airport and prepared the DPR.
A sum of about Rs 54 crore has been sanctioned in the DPR, out of
which Rs 10 crore may be sanctioned soon after issuance of the Government
Order.
Presently, Naini Saini airport can be used for landing only small 12-seater
aircrafts. Now, apart from expansion of the length and width of the runway,
the airport would also be equipped with basic infrastructure like an Air
Traffic Control tower, terminal building and fire station to name a few.
