Movie buffs in Nainital can now watch their favourite actors on big screen as the opening of the iconic Capitol cinema hall in Nainital from 4th March 2016. The almost 280 seat Capitol cinema hall in the city of lakes was to opened in 1920s. The Uttarakhand high court had recently ordered restoration of dysfuntional cinema halls in Nainital. Tickets for the movies in the cinema will also be available online. A website for online booking is currently under development. Capitol mostly showcased English movies and classics of the bygone era. The cinema halls became popular especially after the decline of theatre culture in the hill town. Capitol Cinema Hall & Ashoka Cinema hall shut down in 2004 after the lease granted by the municipal corporation expired. Since then, people of this hill station have not been able to watch a movie on the big screen.
