Corbett National Park is just 60 km away from Nainital situated in Ramnagar in the District of Nainital, Uttarakhand with an area of 521 km2.

(120 km) away set on the banks of the mighty Ram Ganga river is Dhikala - the main tourist attraction in the world famous and India's first national Park - Jim Corbett. One can sit in solitude for hours admiring the nature and the river or can go for jeep Safari or Elephant ride for a life thrilling encounter with the Lord of the Jungle - Tiger. The 525 sq.km. of forests and more than 500 species of animals, birds fishes and reptibs provides a range of adventure to all -from a child to a man with his adrenaline pumping.

The Jim Corbett National Park is a heaven for the adventure seeker and wildlife adventure lovers. Corbett National Park is India's first national park which comprises 520.8 km2. area of hills, riverine belts, marshy depressions, grass lands and large lake. The elevation ranges from 1,300 feet to 4,000 feet. Winter nights in Corbett National Park are cold but the days are bright and sunny. It rains from July to September.

The Corbett National Park is located between 29°25' to 29°39'N latitude and 78°44' to 79°07'E longitude. The average altitude of the region ranges between 360 m (1,181 ft) and 1,040 m (3,412 ft). It has numerous ravines, ridges, minor streams and small plateaus with varying aspects and degrees of slopes. The park encompasses the Patli Dun valley formed by the Ramganga river. It protects parts of the Upper Gangetic Plains moist deciduous forests and Himalayan subtropical pine forests ecoregions.

The present area of the Corbett National Park Reserve is 1,318.54 square kilometres (509.09 sq mi) including 520 square kilometres (200 sq mi) of core area and 797.72 square kilometres (308.00 sq mi) of buffer area. The core area forms the Jim Corbett National Park while the buffer contains reserve forests (496.54 square kilometres (191.72 sq mi)) as well as the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary 301.18 square kilometres (116.29 sq mi)).

The Corbett National Park reserve, located partly along a valley between the Lesser Himalaya in the north and the Siwaliks in the south, has a sub-Himalayan belt structure. The upper tertiary rocks are exposed towards the base of the Siwalik range and hard sandstone units form broad ridges. Characteristic longitudinal valleys, geographically termed Doons, or Duns can be seen formed along the narrow tectonic zones between lineaments.

Jim Corbett Park is the oldest park in India, extends along the banks of the Ramganga river, encompassing the dense Sal Forests of the Himalayan foothills & the Savannah vegetation of tall grassy meadows.

This is one of the richest areas for the typical big mammals of northern India, renamed after Jim Corbett the famous hunter, author and pioneer conservationist who helped set up this wildlife sanctuary. With elevations in the Park ranging from 400m to 1210m there is a rich diversity in habitat. Animals of the Himalayas and those of peninsular India can both be seen here and over 50 mammal and 25 reptile species have been recorded at Corbett. Among the predators are the tiger, leopard, diverse species of lesser cats and the dhole - the wild dog.

Rainfall ranges from light during the dry season to heavy during the monsoons.

By Air :- The closest domestic airport to Corbett National Park is 50 kms away from Corbett National Park at Phoolbagh, Pantnagar. At 295 Km from Corbett National Park, the nearest International Airport is at Delhi.

By Rail :- The closest railway station to Corbett National Park is Ramnagar Railway Station, which is 12 km from the Park. The Ranikhet Express plies between Delhi and Ramnagar, departing from Delhi at 10.50 pm and arriving at 4.35 am the next day. The train from here for Delhi begins at 9.05 pm, reaching Delhi at 5 am the next day.

By Road :- Most people prefer to drive down to Corbett National Park. It takes approximately six hours from Delhi to cover the 295-km stretch. The route takes you through Gajraula, Moradabad, Kashipur and Ramnagar.
