Sattal Mission Estate and Methodist Ashram

The Sattal Christian Ashram was established by E. Stanley Jones (1884-1973),
the evangelist and missionary. This Christian Ashram is situated on
the banks of Sattal lakes, on a former tea estate. St. John's Church
is part of this ashram and showcases a mixed colonial architecture.
There is also a Sattal Christian Ashram chapel situated nearby. It
was established in 1930 to introduce Christianity into the Kumaun
region of Uttarakhand. Revered Stanley Jones was a friend of Mahatma
Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Earl Denman, who attempted Mount Everest
alone and secretly with Tenzing Norgay in 1947, stayed in this Ashram
            for many years.

 About
2 km from Sattal is Naukuchiatal is picturesque & mystique
lake with 9 corners or or the 'nine-cornered lake'. Surrounded
by dense forested hills on all sides it provides solace from the maddening
            rush of the plains.

Naukuchiatal is nourished by an underwater spring, which keeps its
            water levels high.

Naukuchiatal is the deepest lake in the Lake District of India (Nainital)
and lost in acres of oak forest in the lesser Himalayas.

Naukuchiatal attracts migratory birds, which makes it a bird watchers
paradise. Lakes, fishing, trek, Paraglading and mountain biking are
            major attractions.

About 2 kms from Sattal, nestled in a beautiful pristine valley, Bhimtal
jem of a lake is the largest around Nainital. The beauty is enhanced
by a small Island surrounded by crystal blue water. It has a island
in the center approached only by a boat and at present it has an Aquarium
there. A gaggle of ducks has made the lake their home and give company
to the lake visitor. Bhimtal is much less crowded than Nainital and
the lake, Bhimtal is much cleaner than it's better known counterpart
            Nainital

About 23 Km away is Nainital - Nainital boasts of Nine
different lakes, shares its boundary with one of the most visited
National Parks (Corbett National Park) in the country, has Lush Green
Valley view of the Hills and lower forested ridges and obviously is
part of the Mighty Glittering Himalayan Range. Nainital is post-card
pretty and has wonderfully clean air to match. There is also a romantic
            air about this beautiful hill-station.
