Uttarakhand formerly Uttaranchal, is a state located in the northern part
of India. It is often referred to as the Land of Gods - Dev Bhumi
due to the many holy Hindu temples and cities found throughout the state
which are some of Hinduism's most spiritual and auspicious places of pilgrimage
and worship. The shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath
and Badrinath make up the Char Dham Yatra, four highly sacred
destinations of the Hindus. Uttarakhand also known for its natural
beauty.
Brahma Kamal - State Flower of Uttarakhand
Brahma Kamal, the state flower of Uttarakhand in India is one of the most
famous flowers seen in the Himalayas. It is scientifically known as Saussurea
obvallata which comes under Sunflower family, Asteraceae. This flower
is the best example of the flowers and plant life in the alpine habitats
at the upper reaches of the mountain ranges.
The thick curved roots of these plants are used as local medicine for
paralysis of the limbs and cerebral ischemia. It is widely seen in the
places like Himalayan mountain ranges of Uttarakhand and also The Valley
of Flowers National Park in the state.
The Indian Postal Department has issued a postal stamp to commemorate
this beautiful Himalayan flower.
